The Western Regional Minister, Hon. Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah on Tuesday,16th of July 2019, paid a working visit to towns and villages in the Shama District  to explain current government programs to the Chiefs and people that are geared towards the accelerated development of the area.

The tour was also meant to identify problems confronting the people and initiate strategies for solving them.

This is the first familiarisation tour the Regional Minister has embarked upon, since he was appointed by President Akufo-Addo and last two months and subsequently approved by Parliament to steer the affairs of the Region.


As part of the tour Hon. Kwabena Okyere Darko- Mensah with Hon Joseph Amoah, DCE for Shama District, paid a courtesy call to Ag President of Shama Traditional Council, Nana Wienu II at his palace.

The Hon. Minister made a passionate request to Chiefs and people of the district to support the Akufo- Addo government in it quest to bring development in the district.

He further pleaded with Chiefs to willingly lease lands to investors  as this he say will help strengthen activities of the private sector since they are the fulcrum of development. 


Addressing a durbar made up of Staff and Assembly Members, the Regional Minister took the opportunity to thank them for their overwhelming endorsement of the President and also their support for the various programs the government is rolling out to make life better for the majority of Ghanaians.

He then admonished staff of the Assembly to discharge their duties professionally and desist from partisan politics.


Hon Okyere Darko- Mensah inspected some project which are being undertaken in the district, the projects include:

Ongoing construction of classroom block at Komfueku

Ongoing construction of classroom block at Essaman

Ongoing construction of modern CHPS compound at Yabiw

Ongoing Construction of Bussiness Resource Center at Lower  Inchaban

Ongoing Construction of industrial enclave by West Park


Regional Minister was accompanied by some staff of Regional Cordinating Council led by the Regional Chief Director Mr Micheal Ataogye, Regional Budget Analyst, Mr Daniel Ofosu Adjaye, Regional Agriculture Director, Mr S.Y Apiiga and the media.
