Creation of Western North region will bring good healthcare – Lt. Col. Anthony Aduheneb

The creation of the Western North region will promote good health service in the region , Rtd. Lt. Col. Anthony Aduhene, has said

Rtd. Lt. Col. Anthony Aduhene who double as the Spokesperson for the Western North region, made the pronouncement  during the public hearing of the Commission of Enquiry on the creation of new regions at the Accra International Conference Centre.

According to him, should the northern part of the Western region be regarded as a region on its own, a regional hospital will be established, hence improving healthcare in the region.
“Creation of the region will trigger, at least, a construction of a regional hospital where good healthcare delivery will be easily accessible to the people of Western North,” he posited.

He argued that “the only general hospital (in the region) is in Sekondi but it serves only the people in Western South”.

“Imagine a woman in labour at Bia West who develops complications and has to be referred to the regional hospital in Sekondi, a journey of over 10 hours on the deplorable road. Surely, that woman has little chance to survive the journey, let alone come back alive”, Lt. Col. Anthony Aduhene lamented.

Citizens in the Western region share divided opinions about the creation of the new region, with some arguing that what is needed is investment in the region to defray the infrastructure deficit, not the establishment of a new region.

Proponents for the creation of the Western North Region mentioned the dearth of infrastructure, poor road network and the distance from the northern districts to the capital, thus increasing the cost of doing business and poor service delivery.
