Prioritize construction of CHIP compounds to boost healthcare delivery- Health Director to AWMA
The
Municipal Health Director, of the Ahanta West Municipality Caroline Otoo, is
urging the Municipal Chief Executive and assembly members of the Assembly to
prioritize the construction of CHIPS compounds in the municipality.
According
to her, it is incumbent on the district to make it a policy to construct at least
two CHPs compound in a community as part of efforts to promote community health
delivery.
Speaking
to journalists, on the sidelines of an annual performance review meeting, Mad.
Otoo expressed worry with the inadequate number of CHIPS compound in the
municipality.
She mentions the entire Ahanta West municipality cannot boast of
a single well-furnished CHPS compound.
She
stated that works on two CHPS compound which were being built by the assembly
have been suspended, with the project subsequently abandoned at various stages
of completion.
As
a result, the district health directorate in Ahanta West had to rent office spaces
at Ewusiago and Kajabri which they have converted into a CHPS compound.
“In
2016 the district started constructing tow CHIPS compound at Ewusiago and
Kajabri. Until now we have not been able to complete a single CHIPS compound.
So we are compelled to rent an apartment which we have converted into a CHIPS
compound. And the Ahanta west directorate is squeezing water out of stones to
pay for these apartment just to provide quality health service to the community
Therefore
we entreat government to intervene by supporting the assemblies in constructing
CHIPS compound across the community “.
She said
Mad.
Caroline Otoo disclosed that due to the non-payment of health insurance claims
by the National Health Insurance Authority “healthcare delivery is seriously on
a decline in the municipality.”
She
avers the lack of funds and the absence of ambulance needs to be addressed
urgently.”
‘The
absence of ambulance in the municipality has made it difficult for the us to
save lives...we have been doing our best but if government will step in to
ensure we have an ambulance, motorcycles to aid health delivery in the
municipality”
