For some time now the Sekondi Takoradi
metropolis has been experiencing long spells of water shortage.
Currently residents of Kojokrom and its environs
have been without water for the past two days.
Two of the treatments plants for the Ghana Water
Company Limited have been producing below their operational capacity. This is
because the River Pra is choked with silt which is affecting the treatment
plants’ ability to draw raw water.
Against this, the Ghana Water Company Limited is
embarking on a four day desilting exercise of its intake points.
Western Region Chief Manager of the Ghana Water
Company Limited Ing Mark Teiko Codjoe, explained to Skyy news it has become
necessary to embark on the exercise so as to improve on water supply to the
metropolis.

produces just 3.5 million gallons a day against the average standard of 5
million gallons a day”.
He indicated the exercise is being done at a
cost of GHC60.000 at the Daboase intake alone.
