WASSA EAST TO USE MEDIA TO INCREASE IGF.
The Wassa East District Assembly has
expressed its determination to increase its internally generated funds in 2018
through rigorous media advertisement to expand its markets to other districts
with in the region.
Owing to the district’s inability to
generate much funds internally, the assembly’s common funds has been on a nosedive. This in effect has delayed numerous developmental projects which the
assembly intends doing.
Mr Wilson Arthur the District Chief
Executive for the district stated the assembly intend leveraging on it market
places and the food stuffs which are in abundance in the district to rake in
more revenues for the assembly.
According to him the assembly is
rolling out plans to expand existing market places and build new markets at
Edukrom, Atieku, and Atobiase, besides,
the district will reconstruct all poor
roads and advertise the market place in
the media as a move to show case the district.
“ Wassa East on
Tuesdays is vibrant with trading activities and you will be shocked by the quality of food crops being sold at very
affordable prices, fortunately Sekondi – Takoradi is just twenty five minute
drive to Daboase.… so what we are going to do is that has we expand our market
structures we use the media to open up our market by advertising aggressively
in the media and reconstruct dilapidated roads to the district to make the
market attractive for people to come here to trade’
This he believe will boost trading activities
at the market which will translate into the assembly generating much funds internally
for development.
Mr Wilsion Arthur decry how reluctant
some section of the public are in paying their basic rates.
Hence, the assembly intend
constituting committees at every community to collaborate with the revenue
department to collect basic rates.
“Wassa East has a population around 100,000 but what the
assembly collect has a basic rate is woefully low… so we are setting up a
committee and we will decentralize these committees to collaborate with the
district revenue department to collect basic rates and property rates and that
will help increase our common fund for developments”
